Cap gun leads to two Guelph schools placed in hold and secure

Tactics and rescue and canine units included in response after citizen reported seeing a gun

On Jan. 24, 2019 at approximately 12:32 p.m., a citizen contacted the Guelph Police Service to report seeing a youth with what was believed to be a black handgun in the area of Victoria Road North and Grange Road.

The youth was last seen walking toward a school in the area. Two schools in the area were placed in Hold and Secure while the area was searched. Members of the Youth Unit, Tactics and Rescue, Canine and, Frontline patrol searched the area. The responsible youth was located by the high school resource officers and the gun was found to be a cap gun. No charges were laid. At no time was the public in any danger.

The Guelph Police Service reminds everyone that toy guns and replica firearms are treated as authentic until proven otherwise and therefore should not be displayed in public.  As always, Guelph police would like to thank citizens that report anything they see as a potential public safety issue to police.
