Car crash in Mapleton leaves motorcyclist with serious injuries

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON - On April 6, 2020, at approximately 1:50 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services and the Wellesley Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a sedan on Wellington Road 12 at the Fourth Line of Mapleton Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed that an eastbound sedan and a westbound motorcycle collided when the driver of the sedan attempted to make a left hand turn in front of the motorcycle which led to the collision.

The Wellington County OPP along with OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue to investigate the collision.

The driver of the motorcycle, Patrick Burke, 57 years old of Hillsburgh, was transported by air ambulance to a trauma centre with serious injuries.  

The driver of the sedan, Phoumy Homsombath, 65 years old of Kitchener was uninjured and has been charged with careless driving - causing bodily harm contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. They will appear in the Ontario Provincial Court on July 15, 2020 to answer to the charge.
