A Guelph male faces charges after he was caught breaking into a car Wednesday morning and held for police.

Just after 9:30 a.m., a resident of Cardigan Street caught a male inside his motor vehicle. The victim and a friend detained the male until police arrived a short time later.

The complainant advised the male was using the complainant’s own backpack to transport stolen property. A search of the male subsequent to arrest revealed he was in possession of blank cheques in someone else’s name. Investigation revealed the male is on a release order with a condition not to possess any cheque or other banking document unless in his name.

A 52-year-old Guelph male is charged with theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order. He will appear in a Guelph court Jan. 8.
