UPDATE 2:36 p.m.:  Guelph police report the person has been released without charges and that the reports of a weapon proved to be unsubstantiated.

A male youth has been arrested after a weapon-related incident around a pair of Guelph high schools.

Guelph police were called to the parking lot area around College Heights and Centennial just after 11:30 a.m. for reports of someone possibly with a weapon.

Parents of students at Centennial were notified by email that the school had to “follow lockdown procedures” as police investigated a situation in the parking lot.

At the time, the email states some students were outside in a rugby tournament, and were moved safely to an area around the Sports Dome.

Police spokesperson Scott Tracey said a hold and secure was placed on College Heights.

“Officers got there quickly and located a person,” he said, adding the protocols were lifted before noon.

There’s no word if charges were laid, or if any weapon was recovered.

The investigation remains ongoing.
