Careless driving charge follows incident that caused large internet outage

A waste collection truck snagged overhead wires in the area of Clair Road West and Gosling Gardens on Thursday morning, pulling down two traffic signal poles.

A waste collection truck driver has been charged with careless driving after a collision Thursday morning which left a south-end road closed most of the day.

Approximately 8:35 a.m. police were called to the intersection of Clair Road West and Gosling Gardens. The truck was being driven when the collection forks became snagged on telecommunications lines, pulling down two light standards which fell across the road.

Roads in the area were closed most of the day as crews worked to restore service and replace the damaged poles.

The 50-year-old truck driver was charged with careless driving.
