On Jan. 2, 2023, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to an address in Centre Wellington for reports of a youth that was receiving threatening messages on Instagram. The youth claimed the messages were coming from a person known to them. After an extensive investigation spanning several months, officers determined that the complainant had in fact sent the threatening messages to themselves and had misled officers conducting the investigation.
As a result, a 16-year-old of Centre Wellington has been charged with public mischief. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.
