A 40-year-old Guelph man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after police heard concerns about a vehicle early Friday.

Officers learned of a potentially impaired driver at about 1:20 a.m. and found the suspect vehicle in an Imperial Road North parking lot. When officers spoke with the driver, an alcoholic beverage odour was detected on their breath, a police news release states.

The man failed a roadside screening device test and was taken to the police station, where additional testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system to drive.

In addition to the charges, the accused had his driver’s licence automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.
