A Guelph man faces an impaired driving charge after refusing to provide a breath sample.

Approximately 11:25 p.m. Friday police were called to the area of Edinburgh Road South and Municipal Street. A caller advised a man had been sitting in a vehicle for more than an hour, and at times had exited the vehicle and appeared unsteady on his feet.

Officers arrived and spoke to the male, immediately detecting a strong odour of alcoholic beverage. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet and showing obvious signs of impairment. One empty and one half-empty vodka bottle were found inside the vehicle.

The man was arrested and transported to the police station, where he refused repeated demands for a breath sample. A 52-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation and refusing to provide a breath sample.
