A Guelph male faces several charges after entering two downtown businesses Tuesday and stealing employees’ property.

Just before 3 p.m. the male entered the back door of a business on Baker Street which is not open to the public. He allegedly stole two cell phones and a tablet before running away. The owner of one of the phones noticed it missing and believed another employee had taken it by accident. She traced the phone using an app and attended Goldie Mill Park, where she saw the male using her phone.

As the victim attempted to get her phone back, the male pushed her and ran away.

Just before 4 p.m., the male entered a business on Wyndham Street North which is also not currently open to the public. He was seen by a manager and asked to leave, but an employee later noticed his wallet and keys missing. The male was captured on surveillance video.

Guelph police officers located the male on Carden Street a short time later and arrested him.

A 36-year-old Guelph male is charged with break and enter, possessing stolen property, assault, theft under $5,000, use of credit card and two counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
