A Guelph man who allegedly sped off from police with a child in the car last summer has been arrested.

He faces several charges, including endangering a child.

Guelph police report that at approximately 1:30 p.m. July 31, officers were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle leaving a parking lot on Woodlawn Road West and noted the front and rear licence plates did not match. A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle initially stopped on the shoulder of the Hanlon Expressway before speeding away.

The vehicle continued on the Hanlon, passing several vehicles at a high rate of speed before turning onto Speedvale Avenue West and speeding through a construction zone.

Officers were able to identify the driver through video surveillance and noted three adult females and a small child also getting into the car just before it was observed by police.

A 27-year-old Guelph man was arrested Thursday. He is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, endangering a child, two counts of driving while prohibited and four counts of breaching court orders. He was held to appear in a Guelph bail court Feb. 16.
