Commercial vehicle driver faces drunk driving charges

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON - On Tuesday Dec. 11, 2018 at approximately 5 p.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Eighth Line West, east of Elora. The officer stopped the driver of a grey commercial vehicle who was driving erratically.

While speaking with the male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

56-year-old Donald Lantz of South Bruce Peninsula has been charged with impaired driving, driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood and driving with an open container of liquor.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Jan. 15, 2019.  

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
