Concerned citizen chases alleged thief, holds him until police arrive

Early on the morning of July 26, 2019, a concerned citizen observed a male on the east end of the city trying multiple car door handles that were parked on the street before gaining access to one of them. The concerned citizen gave chase, caught the male and held him until officers arrived. The male was subsequently arrested and a search of the male revealed a wallet belonging to a nearby resident.

A 43-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He will appear in court on Sept. 3.

This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime, you can report it though the Guelph Police online reporting portal.
