Customer who appeared to be intoxicated refused service, later arrested at home

Guelph Police report that a man refused service at a business because he appeared to be intoxicated was later arrested at home after police were called.

On Wednesday Guelph Police Service was notified that an employee at a store located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue had just refused to sell alcohol to a man as he was displaying signs of intoxication. The man then drove away in a motor vehicle.

A short time later, police found the vehicle in the driveway of a residence located near the intersection of Stevenson Street North and Eramosa Road. Police spoke with him and he ultimately failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested.

A 42-year-old Guelph man was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration.

His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He will appear in court on Jan. 8.
