Cyclist, 81, dies in collision in Mapleton Township

Crash between bicycle and SUV took place around 3 p.m.

An 81-year-old cyclist is dead following a collision this afternoon in Mapleton Township.

At around 3 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a collision involving an SUV and a cyclist on County Road 12 between County Road 8 and Twelfth Line.

The OPP, the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service and the Drayton Fire Department attended the scene. 

The cyclist, a resident of Hamilton, was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. 

The driver of the SUV was uninjured, police said in a news release.    

The OPP are continuing to investigate with the assistance of the OPP West Region traffic incident management and enforcement team.

Wellington County Road 12 was expected to be closed between County Road 8 and Twelfth Line for the next several hours. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
