Cyclist struck on Wellington Road 7 (Update: road closed, 4 photos)

The cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene

8:12 a.m. update

The cyclist, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity will be withheld until next of kin have been notified. The driver of the vehicle that struck the cyclist remained at scene.

The investigation is ongoing and County Road 7 is expected to be closed between Eighth Line and County 51 for several hours.

The OPP is asking that anyone who may have been driving on County 7 southbound early this morning and saw the cyclist to please call them at 1-888-310-1122.

Original release

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police is currently responding to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Wellington Road 7 between Wellington Road 51 and Eighth Line, north of Guelph. The collision was reported at approximately 6:30 a.m. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle has collided with a cyclist. The extent of any injuries is unknown at this time.

OPP as well as Guelph Fire Service and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Service are currently at scene.

Traffic may be delayed and investigation ongoing.
