A Guelph woman faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after a crash early Friday just outside downtown.

Approximately 2 a.m. police were called to Gordon Street south of Wellington Street where an SUV had collided with a cement post. Witnesses reported the vehicle swerved out of its lane and hit a pole on a centre median, then crossed its own lane and struck another post at the entrance to Royal City Park.

Officers spoke to a woman who identified herself as the driver and immediately noted a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was transported to the police station where tests revealed she had more than three times the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

A 38-year-old is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
