Guelph police is reminding drivers they should not rely on other drivers telling them its safe to enter a roadway and must yield to traffic following a Thursday afternoon collision that saw a vehicle rolled onto its roof and one person taken to hospital.

The incident happened at about 4:20 p.m. in the area of Edinburgh Road North and Woodlawn Road West, explains a police news release.

A car driver was wanting to enter the road from a private driveway and was waved into the road by another motorist. However, the path was not clear.

As the car entered the roadway, it struck an SUV, causing it to roll over and come to rest on its roof.

The SUV driver was helped out of the vehicle by witnesses and later transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The car driver, a 32-year-old Guelph man, was charged with failing to yield from a private driveway under the Highway Traffic Act.
