Driver charged after vehicle hits fence, snowbank on Wellington Road 18

Police say the driver was prohibited and was in possession of fentanyl

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On January 11, 2021, at approximately 6:50 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle in the ditch at the intersection of Wellington Road 18 and the First Line in Centre Wellington Township.

Investigation revealed that an eastbound motor vehicle left the roadway, entered the ditch, struck a fence and came to rest in a snow bank. The driver subsequently fled the scene on foot. 

Officers canvassed nearby residences while the Wellington County OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers tracked fresh footprints in the snow to a residence, approximately one kilometre away from the collision scene. Officers spoke with the home owner and determined that the driver was there and they were taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Drug paraphernalia and purple fentanyl were seized.

Kyle Michael Rochon, 31 years old of Elmira has been charged with operation while prohibited x3 contrary to the Criminal Code and possession of fentanyl contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

 The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Feb. 19, 2021 to answer to the charges.
