Driver charged with impaired after leaving Belwood ball diamond

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Sept. 12, 2019, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a black pickup truck on Wellington Road 19 that had just left the ball diamond near Belwood.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Harm de Haan, 36 years old of Centre Wellington Township has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Oct. 18, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Sept. 12, 2019 at approximately 10:40 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver that had just left an eating establishment on Wellington Road 109.

Officers located the minivan as described by the witness and while speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Matthew Lockhart, 44 years old of Mapleton Township, has been charged with impaired operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) and operation while prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Oct. 15, 2019.
