Elora man charged with racing motor vehicle (CORRECTED)

Correction: The original information supplied by Wellington County OPP stated the man was recorded going 190 km/h. OPP have since corrected that information. The driver is accused of doing 90 km/h, not 190 km/h.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Sept. 3, 2021, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, near Elora. 

The officer observed a blue coupe travelling above the posted 50 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 90 km/h.

As a result a 55-year-old Elora man has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Nov. 17, 2021.

The defendant's vehicle and driver's licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
