Guelph police report that an Elora man died Monday morning as a result of an industrial accident on a Guelph work site.

Just before 9 a.m., emergency services were called to a construction site in the area of Gordon Street and Clair Road East. Investigation revealed a small excavator had tipped over, ejecting the operator and trapping him under the machine.

The male was extricated from under the excavator by members of the Guelph Fire Department. Efforts to revive him were not successful and the 49-year-old Elora male was declared deceased by paramedics from the Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service.

The provincial Ministry of Labour has taken over the investigation.
