A Guelph man faces a long list of charges after a stolen vehicle was observed driving erratically Thursday afternoon.
Just after 2 p.m., police observed a vehicle speeding through the parking lot of a plaza at Gordon Street and Clair Road, then speed southbound on Gordon Street passing other cars on the gravel shoulder.
Officers observed the vehicle pulling into a driveway on Maltby Road and saw a man fleeing on foot into a field. He was caught after a short foot pursuit but actively resisted attempts to get him under arrest.
Investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction and had altered licence plates attached. A search of the vehicle revealed small amounts of suspected cocaine and marijuana in the console area, as well as a wallet containing identification in various people’s names.
A 35-year-old Guelph man faces more than a dozen charges including dangerous driving, possessing stolen property over $5,000, resisting arrest, possessing a controlled substance, possessing identity documents and driving while prohibited. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
