Fergus man taken into custody following several hours of police negotiation (update)

Thirty-two-year-old Warren Robert Taylor of Fergus has been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He was held for bail court.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On April 3, 2018 approximately 8:15 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Herrick Street North, town of Fergus.

A male suspect brandished a weapon inside the residence and refused to cooperate with officers.

Based on information obtained during the investigation, the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) along with the Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Ontario Provincial Police Canine Unit were requested and dispatched to attend and assist the Wellington County OPP.

After several hours of negotiation a 32-year-old male suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
