Guelph police are investigating after catalytic converters were stolen from five vehicles at a north end business.

Police were called Tuesday afternoon to the business in the area of Michener Road and Woodlawn Road West. Staff discovered the exhaust components missing while moving vehicles around the lot. It is believed the thefts occurred late Monday or early Tuesday.

The converters have an estimated value of $15,000.

Police services across North America have reported a steep increase in thefts of catalytic converters during the past year. In Guelph there have been dozens of reports since the beginning of 2021.
