Four impaired charges laid on the weekend

Four people were arrested by Guelph Police in separate incidents over the weekend.

Approximately 2:25 a.m. Saturday, police stopped a vehicle in the area of Wellington Street and Gordon Street after a witness reported seeing an allegedly intoxicated man driving away from downtown. The driver was arrested and taken to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 28-year-old Cambridge man is charged with impaired driving.

A short time later, an officer on patrol on College Avenue West observed a vehicle driving erratically and stopped it near the Hanlon Expressway. The driver was showing signs of impairment and was arrested. He was transported to the police station where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 23-year-old Fergus man is charged with impaired driving.

Saturday evening, approximately 9:45 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Elmira Road North near Woodlawn Road West after receiving information the driver may be impaired. The driver was arrested and taken to the police station, where testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

A 31-year-old Waterloo woman is charged with impaired driving.

On Sunday evening, just before 8 p.m., police were dispatched for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a south end school. The caller reported the vehicle had been in the lot for a couple hours and was running with someone inside.

Officers observed an empty vodka bottle on the ground beside the vehicle and a man asleep in the driver’s seat. The male was awakened and asked for his driver’s licence, instead handing over a debit card. The man was asked to exit the vehicle and officers observed he was very unsteady on his feet and had soiled himself.

The man refused several times to provide a breath sample.

A 52-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and refusing to comply with a breath demand.
