A 49-year-old Guelph man faces two charges, including transportation fraud, after reportedly fleeing without paying for a cab ride across town Thursday night.

In a news release, Guelph police explain a man was picked up by a taxi in the south end and driven to the area of Grange Street and Stevenson Street North at about 10:20 p.m. When they reached the destination, the man refused to pay the $38 fare and ran away.

After responding to the incident, officers saw a male matching the suspect’s description running into a nearby apartment and were able to place him under arrest.

The suspect is charged with transportation fraud and failing to comply with a probation order.
