Guelph Police Service dealt with 247 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Change room thefts – arrest
On April 25, 2019 at 2:37 p.m., Guelph Police went to the recreation centre on Victoria Road to investigate a theft from the change room. At 2:55 p.m., the (alleged) responsible person was located within the recreation centre by police and she was arrested. A subsequent search discovered the property stolen from two lockers, property that had been reported stolen from a car in the parking lot, as well as break and enter tools.

The 35-year-old Guelph woman has been charged with two counts of theft under, three counts of possession of stolen property and possession of break-in instruments. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Foot chase – man arrested
On April 25, 2019 at approximately 5:02 a.m., Guelph Police observed a man on Willow Road that was known to be wanted on criminal charges. As police approached, the man fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the man was arrested. A subsequent search discovered a quantity of purple Fentanyl.

The 28-year-old Guelph man was wanted for break and enter and two counts of breach of probation. New charges are possession of a controlled substance and four counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on May 17, 2019.

Transportation fraud – arrest
On April 26, 2019 at 2:15 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the Marksam Road area to assist a cab driver with a male passenger. The passenger had exited the cab after being driven from one location to the next and started to walk away without paying. As the cab followed the man in an attempt to talk to him and have him pay, the man approached the cab and began kicking it causing damage. Police located the man and he was arrested.

The 25-year-old Guelph man has ben charged with transportation fraud, mischief under and breack OIC Undertaking. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Hit and run
On April 25, 2019 at 9:15 p.m., a red van travelling southbound on Alma Street at Plymouth Court struck a parked four-door Saturn. Extensive damage was caused to both vehicles but the van left the area. The van is described as possibly being a Dodge Caravan and will have significant damage to the front. It was last seen southbound on Alma Street.

Break and enter
On April 25, 2019, the Guelph Police went a Terraview Crescent residence for a break and enter. The resident was home sleeping when he heard a noise at approximately 4 a.m. On checking on that noise, their front door was found to be wide open but the culprit was gone. No theft is reported.
