In the last 24 hours, the Guelph Police Service have dealt with approximately 229 calls for service

The following news relases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

B.E.A.T. Team arrests wanted male
On February 9, 2019, a stolen vehicle investigation led to the identification of a suspect. On February 10, 2019 a commercial break and enter investigation led to the identification of the same suspect. Lastly, the same suspect was wanted for the charges of flight from police, dangerous drive, possession of stolen property and breaching his probation order.

On February 21, 2019, members of the Guelph Police Service B.E.A.T. team located and arrested a 23 year old Guelph male for several warrants related to the above mentioned incidents. It is alleged he had a machete on his person and stolen items. The male was further charged with weapons dangerous and possession of stolen property. He was held for a bail hearing.

Theft arrest
On February 21, 2019, Guelph police entered a theft investigation involving a retail store on Wellington Street West. The investigation led to the identification of a suspect. Approximately a half an hour later, while on routine patrol, a Guelph police officer recognized the wanted male downtown.

Frankie Leblanc, a 27 year old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with theft under and breaching his probation order. He was given an April 9, 2019 court date.

Stolen credit card investigation
On February 12, 2019, Guelph police entered into a theft investigation involving the use of stolen credit cards. The stolen credit cards were used in variety stores, restaurants or coffee shops in the area of downtown Guelph. The investigation led to the identification of two suspects.

On February 21, 2019 Steven Guthrie, a 48 year old Guelph male, and Tammy Fox, a 50 year old Guelph female, were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and five counts of use stolen credit cards. They were both given an April 4, 2019 court date.

Workplace assault arrest
On February 18, 2019, Guelph police entered into an assault investigation that is alleged to have occurred between two employees of a business in the north end. After going to the hospital, the victim was released with relatively minor injuries.

On February 21, 2019 police arrested Hai Ngo, a 53 year old Guelph male, and charged him with assault. He was given an April 5, 2019 court date.

Fire at 32 Independence Place
GUELPH, ON, – On Feb 21 2019 at 22:55 hours the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the above noted location. Units from station 2, 3,4,5, and 1 arrived on scene at Linamar Gear.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished.  Upon arrival the GFD was informed by staff on duty that they had attempted to put out the fire with dry chemical extinguishers. Guelph firefighters also made further attempts with dry chemical extinguisher but were unsuccessful. A foam line was then used to put out the fire and cool the heat treating furnace.

There were no injuries to workers or members of the Guelph Fire Department, all personnel were evacuated before the arrival of fire crews.

The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation. Fire Prevention was contacted and will be following up at a later time. There are no estimate of damages at this time
