Guelph Police were involved in 220 incidents over the past 24 hours

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Disturbance downtown – arrest
On March 7, 2019 at 11:37 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a downtown establishment for the report that an employee had been assaulted. Investigation determined that a man had been removed from the bar but attempted to regain entry. At this time the man (allegedly) punched a staff member in the face. He was then detained until police arrived.

Sebastian Borjas Hasbun, 22 years of Hamilton, has been charged with assault. He will appear in court April 16, 2019.

Man arrested on warrants downtown
On March 7, 2019 at 7:38 a.m., Guelph Police observed a man walking on Macdonell Street that was known to them as having a warrant for his arrest. The man was searched subsequent to his arrest and a small quantity of methamphetamine was discovered.

Robert Howatt, 30 years of Guelph, had pre-existing charges on the warrants of five counts of breach of probation, two counts of fail to re-attend court and one count of fail to appear. Additional charges of possession of a controlled substance, fail to re-attend court and two counts of breach of probation were laid. He will next appear in court on March 11, 2019.  

Theft from cars
On March 7, 2019 the Guelph Police received four reports of theft from cars. The locations were Worton Avenue, Willow Road, Kipling Avenue and Bonar Place.

This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave and belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime you can report it through the Guelph Police online reporting portal.
