Friend doesn't let friend drive drunk, says Guelph Police

A friend intervened as an allegedly intoxicated man tried to drive away from a south end restaurant

Guelph Police Service says a man attempted to stop a friend from driving away from a restaurant while impaired, leading to charges.

On Thurdsay at 10:32 p.m. officers were dispatched to a fight in progress outside a restaurant located near the intersection of Clair Road West and Gordon Street in Guelph.

An allegedly intoxicated adult male had left the restaurant, got in his motor vehicle and started to drive away but was stopped by another man intervening and a physical fight ensued.

Police are calling the two men friends and note that no injuries resulted from the incident.

Once on scene, police spoke with the driver and he was subsequently arrested.

A 32-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration

He will appear in court on Nov. 17.
