A Guelph woman faces an impaired driving charge following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

Approximately 2:30 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was driving on Grange Road when a pickup was observed leaving a plaza at a high rate of speed. The officer could see the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver had an odour of alcoholic beverage on her breath and was showing signs of impairment. After failing a roadside test she was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

A 30-year-old is charged with impaired driving and Highway Traffic Act offences. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
