A Guelph couple face more than two dozen charges in relation to ongoing investigations into stolen motor vehicles, report Guelph police.

On Wednesday, approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit observed a stolen SUV entering the parking lot of a business on Edinburgh Road North near Willow Road. Officers blocked the vehicle in and arrested the male driver and female passenger.

A search of the vehicle revealed stolen property including cheques and identification. Investigation revealed the male, who is bound by six different driving prohibitions, was involved in two gas drive-offs this week involving a different stolen SUV.

A 22-year-old Guelph male and 32-year-old Guelph female are jointly charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, six counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000 and two counts of unlawful possession of a credit card. The male is further charged with another count of possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, 12 counts of driving while prohibited and three counts of breaching court orders.

Both were held for bail hearings Thursday.
