A dispute between drivers in a residential area turned ugly on Wednesday morning, when police say a man threatened to smash the other driver’s window and put sugar in their gas tank.

The incident happened near the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Speedvale Avenue West, explains a police news release.

When police spotted the suspect driving in the area that afternoon, officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle fled at a “high rate of speed” and turned into a commercial parking lot, where it continued to travel at “excessive speeds” despite the lot’s “heavy traffic” and the presence of pedestrians.

The suspect reportedly drove to a nearby residential neighbourhood, parked in front of a home and ran inside.

Investigation following their arrest allegedly revealed the suspect’s driver’s licence was suspended, he had failed to attend court on a previous occasion and they were wanted on three outstanding warrants.

One alleges dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer and failure to attend court. In another incident he’s accused of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The third warrant is for driving while suspended.

New charges for the 32-year-old Brampton man include uttering threats to damage property, flight from peace officer, dangerous driving and driving while under suspension, as well as two counts each of failure to comply with an undertaking and failure to appear in court.
