Guelph man accused of defrauding lumber company, police say

Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate reports of fraud involving lumber purchases using online buy and sell websites. Between October and December 2021 the suspects obtained lumber and building materials using fraudulently obtained credit accounts. 

The suspects allegedly defrauded a lumber company of approximately $119,000.

On Feb. 10, police completed a search warrant at a residence in Guelph. As a result of the ongoing investigation, a 44-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with:

  • Identity theft
  • Identity fraud
  • Fraud over $5,000
  • Possession of an identity document
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The male was held for a bail hearing.
