A near two-hour standoff at an east end home Friday morning has ended in multiple charges for a Guelph man.
Guelph police were called to a home on William Street, near Grange Street at about 9:15 a.m., after an altercation between two housemates.
"A verbal argument escalated until one male threw a chair at the other and then brandished a kitchen knife," police said in a news release.
The victim suffered a minor injury, but was able to get out of the home and call for help.
Police arrived to find a 29-year-old man had barricaded himself inside a bedroom in the home. After almost two hours, police were able to get in the bedroom and arrested the man without injury.
The man was assessed at the scene by paramedics, and left in an ambulance.
He now faces two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats, and is being held for a bail hearing.
