Guelph police arrest man after armed convenience store robbery (UPDATE)

The 7-Eleven store on Speedvale was the target of an armed robbery Thursday morning.

An arrest has been made after an early morning robbery at a Guelph convenience store.

Officers were called to the 7-Eleven on Speedvale Avenue East at 7 a.m. Thursday for an armed robbery.

Police state in a news release that a replica firearm was "pointed and discharged" during the robbery, which happened outside after the suspect left without paying for product.

"Two employees followed him outside but the male pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at them," the release states.

"After the employees ran back inside the male shot the glass door, causing it to shatter."

Nobody was physically hurt.

The suspect was located near Eramosa and Delhi about 30 minutes later, and was arrested.

A black BB gun and property from the business was recovered.

A 36-year-old Guelph man faces numerous charges, including robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of discharge a firearm endangering life.

As of 1 p.m. Thursday, the store in the Speedvale Centre plaza remains surrounded by police tape.
