Guelph police drug bust nets $75K in drugs

Two people were arrested and more than $75,000 in cocaine and other controlled substances were seized in Guelph Thursday evening.

Members of the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation into a man allegedly trafficking controlled substances. Officers stopped a motor vehicle in the city’s south end just before 5 p.m. Thursday and arrested a man and woman.

The vehicle and two addresses in Guelph were searched with the assistance of the Guelph Police Service Tactics and Rescue Unit. Those searches revealed:

  • Cocaine – 570.5 grams – estimated street value - $57,050
  • MDMA – 159.9 grams – estimated street value - $15,990
  • Cannabis – 351.5 grams – Estimated street value - $3,515
  • Canadian Currency - $1,944.52
  • A 2014 luxury sedan
  • 9 mm ammunition 
  • Paraphernalia associated to drug trafficking

A 21-year-old Guelph man and 20-year-old Campbellville woman are each charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purposes of trafficking and trafficking in cocaine. The man is also charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling under the Cannabis Act.

The male was held for a bail hearing Friday. The female has been released and will appear in a Guelph court May 20.
