A Guelph man faces several charges after a police officer was kicked in the groin Monday morning, police report.

Shortly after 4 a.m. police were called to a business on Speedvale Avenue East for a report of shoplifting. Officers located the suspect a short distance away and attempted to arrest him, but the man resisted and kicked one of the officers while he was attempting to handcuff the suspect.

A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and failing to comply with probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
