A Guelph man faces several charges after smashing a neighbour’s windows Saturday and threatening responding police officers with a knife, report police.

They say that at approximately 10:40 a.m. Saturday, the male went to a neighbouring unit at a Willow Road townhouse complex and threw several coffee mugs at the unit, smashing a window and glass front door. The male then removed a 30-centimetre knife from his own kitchen and started walking away from the house along Willow Road.

Guelph Police Service officers arrived several minutes later and saw the male walking with the large knife in his hand. When officers instructed him to drop the knife, the male turned and began quickly approaching and yelling at them. Police were able to disarm the male and place him under arrest, during which he yelled death threats at one of the officers.

A 26-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death and mischief under $5,000. He was held in custody for a bail hearing Monday.
