Two 9mm handguns – one of them loaded – were seized during a recent investigation into drug trafficking involving firearms, Guelph police reported Friday.

Earlier this summer, police received information about a Haldimand County male involved in trafficking controlled substances in Guelph.

As part of the ongoing investigation, search warrants were executed last week at addresses in Burlington and Caledonia, as well as the accused’s motor vehicle.

Two Ruger 9mm handguns were seized, including one which was loaded and had a second loaded magazine. Officers also seized nearly $30,000 worth of suspected cocaine as well as suspected MDMA and other controlled substances and approximately $23,000 in cash.

A 27-year-old Caledonia male faces a number of charges including possessing prohibited firearms, careless storage of a firearm, possessing a prohibited device, tampering with a serial number, four counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possessing proceeds of crime over $5,000. He remains in custody and will appear in Guelph court Friday.
