Guelph woman arrested for shoplifting

Guelph Police arrested a 34-year-old Guelph woman early Wednesday morning in connection with a reported shoplifting incident From Sunday.

Police say that on Sunday at 3:04 p.m. a loss prevention officer at a store near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street observed a woman  shoplifting. She allegedly ripped the tags off numerous pieces of merchandise, placed them in a shopping cart and left the store.

The stolen merchandise included a winter jacket, a kitchen knife set and various other items for a total value of $735.53.

Once outside the store, the LPO confronted the female, and she fled in a motor vehicle, leaving the stolen property behind.

On Wednesday at 2:22 a.m. police found the female at a residence located near the intersection of Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue, where she was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.

She will appear in court on Feb. 21.
