A Guelph female faces several charges after she was reportedly caught in the act Tuesday breaking into apartment building laundry machines.

Just after 9 a.m. Guelph police were called after a resident of an apartment building on Willow Road near Edinburgh Road North went to the laundry room and confronted the suspect. The female had pried open the front door of the building and then pried open the coin boxes on three washing machines.

Investigation revealed she had earlier pried open the front door of another building in the area and then pried open four laundry machines in that building. The total damage was estimated at $3,500.

The female took off on a bicycle, but using a description provided by the witness officers were able to locate her on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue West about 25 minutes later. The bicycle she was riding had earlier been reported stolen and police recovered tools including a prybar, bolt cutters and screwdrivers from her backpack.

A 36-year-old Guelph female is charged with two counts of break and enter as well as possessing stolen property, breaching an undertaking and breaching probation.

She will appear in a Guelph court March 23, 2021.
