Two Hamilton men face theft charges following an Thursday evening shoplifting complaint that resulted in the recovery of more than $3,500 worth of stolen merchandise and a K9 unit search for one of the suspects.
According to a news release, Guelph police received a complaint about a suspected shoplifter at a store near the intersection of Clair Road East and Gordon Street at about 8:20 p.m. Police located a suspect vehicle about an hour later near the intersection of Ironwood Road and Kortright Road West.
One suspect remained with the vehicle and was arrested, while the other fled to a nearby wooded area.
A K9 unit was brought in to track the suspect, finding him about 30 minutes later hiding in long grass next to a ravine about 500 metres from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of $3,517 worth of stolen merchandise, including various colognes, perfumes, cosmetic items and footwear.
Two Hamilton men, ages 58 and 63, are charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. The elder fellow is also charged with breach of probation.
