Head-on crash near Arthur leads to impaired, drug charges

Police say no serious injuries were suffered by anyone involved in the crash

On Oct. 31, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Wellington North Fire Services and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services responded a two vehicle collision on Highway 6 at Jones Baseline south of Arthur.  

Police attended and while speaking with one of the drivers, formed the opinion that they were impaired by drugs. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for further tests.

The occupants were assessed at the scene and no serious injuries were reported.

James Clayton Woods, 20 years old of Waterloo has been charged with driving while impaired by drug contrary to the Criminal Code and possession of a controlled substance - fentanyl contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Dec. 4, 2020.
