Highway 7 reopened but police still searching for armed suspect (Updated:) suspect in custody

Highway was closed for several hours just east of Guelph on Wednesday morning for investigation

Update:  OPP report second suspect was located in the area a few hours later and taken into custody. The firearm is still outstanding.

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA – On April 28, 2021, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence on Highway 7 near Jones Baseline, Guelph-Eramosa Township. It was reported that two males were in the residence and one was armed with a handgun. No one was home at the time.

OPP officers, with the assistance of Guelph Police Service (GPS) and Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officers, set up containment of the area while the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit conducted a search of the scene.

One suspect was located and taken into custody. The second suspect, described as male, wearing a black hoodie, a surgical mask and armed with a handgun, remains outstanding. If you see an individual matching this description, do not approach this person. Call 911 immediately.

OPP uniform officers, with the assistance of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU,) are continuing to investigate this incident.

Highway 7 was temporarily closed, but has since re-opened.
