A Guelph male faces several charges including assault and impaired driving following an incident Saturday evening.

Approximately 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Guelph Police Service officers were dispatched to a gas station in the city’s south end after an adult female came into the business saying she had been assaulted. The female indicated she had been downtown when she got into a verbal dispute with a male known to her.

The male, who had been consuming alcoholic beverages, began driving erratically and running red lights, cutting off several other motor vehicles. When the male came to a stop the female tried to leave, but the male grabbed her wrists and prevented her from leaving for approximately 10 minutes.

Officers located the male at a residence in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Wilsonview Avenue.

A 24-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault, forcible confinement, impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.

The male’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle seized for seven days.
