A Guelph man faces an impaired driving charge after a Tesla was rear-ended while stopped at a red light Tuesday night.

Gueph police say just before 10 p.m. police were called to Stone Road West and the Hanlon Expressway. The victim was stopped behind another vehicle when it was struck from behind, causing significant damage. No serious injuries were reported.

Officers arrived and spoke to the other driver, who had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and was showing clear signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle, which is registered to his girlfriend who was also present, was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court April 23.
