A Guelph man faces impaired driving and speeding charges following a traffic stop Thursday night.

Approximately 11:20 p.m. police were patrolling in the area of Goodwin Drive and Farley Drive when they observed an SUV driving at excessive speed. The vehicle was clocked at 73 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone and was pulled over.

While speaking to the driver, officers detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath. The man failed a roadside breath test and was transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 41-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and speeding.
