Impaired charge follows traffic stop for speeding

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after he was stopped for speeding early Sunday.

Approximately 1:10 a.m. police were conducting speed enforcement on Victoria Road North when he clocked a vehicle travelling 76 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the officer noted an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath, police report.

After failing a roadside test the driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and speeding. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court April 26.
