Intimate partner violence investigation leads to human trafficking charges

PALMERSTON - On July 10, 2023 the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Palmerston. At that time, officers entered into an intimate partner violence investigation as well as a human trafficking investigation.

On Nov. 2, 2023 an individual was arrested, and as a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old of Scarborough has been charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:
    •    Trafficking in Person(s)
    •    Receive Material Benefit for Trafficking Person
    •    Receive Financial or Material Benefit from Commission of the Purchasing Offence
    •    Procuring a Person to Provide Sexual Services
    •    Procuring a Person to Provide Sexual Services by Exercising Control
    •    Advertise Sexual Services for Consideration
    •    Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Choke, Suffocate or Strangle (two counts)
    •    Sexual Assault
    •    Forcible Confinement
    •    Assault - Spousal
